Mercedes-Benz 111 Series Coupe

The ‘fintail’ 111 series started production in August 1959 as a saloon model, followed in February 1961 by the coupes and then the convertibles. It was know as a fintail due to the ‘fins’ at the rear of the vehicle. Altogether 370,807 of these were built, of which 32,804 were coupes and 7,456 were convertibles.

Engine sizes ranged from 2.2, 2.3, 2.5 and 2.8 litre 6 cylinder, to the 3.5 V8, power from 95bhp for the 2.2 to 200bhp for the 3.5

A milestone of this vehicle was front and rear crumple zones, retractable seatbelts and a larger glass area for better all round view.

Also to note is the 112 series 300SE coupe - this was based on the 111 chassis, though it was a more luxurious vehicle, noticeable by a chrome strip it had air suspension and a 3 litre engine as standard, this was the successor to the 300S

One of the most beautiful coupe’s ever made.
